Recording DI and wet signal through SPDIF possible?

So is it possible to record both the DI signal and the wet signal using the SPDIF connection? I know that the SPDIF connection gives 2 channels of audio, one left and one right, is there a way to pan the wet signal to one side and the DI signal to the otherside and then select the corresponding side in the DAW tracks that I want to record the different signals on?
 
Not to ignore your question but why not just record the dry take via SPDIF & the wet track via the Axe OUT to interface IN?
