quick question - frfr?

Currently I am doing two things
1) recording, (output 1, Balanced, left) thru an Mbox2, listening through headphones connected to mbox.
2) playing live, going direct to soundguy, (output 1, Balanced, left) and listening thru whatever foldback is provided.

After reading and trying to sort out through TOO MUCH information - Am I correct in thinking, I could :

1) Do what I currently do AND send output 2 to a JC120 for monitoring (live and recording)
2) Do what I currently do AND buy a Poweramp($$) & Cabinet($$), monitoring thru the cab and still sending a direct signal
3) Do what I currently do AND buy a FRFR speaker for monitoring

#3 sounds like the best option, but I just want to make sure.
So - My main questions are :-
With #3, does the Speaker plug straight into the back of the axe-fx? Do I need anything else?
Do you use output 1 for speaker and output 2 for recording & sending to sound guy?

It just sounds like #3 is to TOO simple, and that I must be missing out on something......

Hi there,

well, you are right, you can connect your monitor speaker to output 2 on the back of the axe-fx.
be aware that it needs to be an active speaker, or you'd have to use a poweramp - speaker combination!

the axe-fx outputs line-level, it's not a poweramp-output!

most frfr guys seem to use output 1 (xlr-balanced) FOH (to the soundguy) and output 2 (1/4" unbalanced) for their on-stage monitoring solution.
be aware also that output 2 has about 6db less output compared to output 1 (xlr), so if you use the fx-loop block in your patches, raise the output level on the mix-page until you reach preferred levels..

you might also use output 1 (xlr) connected to a powered frfr speaker on stage, and use the slave-out on that speaker to feed the FOH / soundguy.
(most frfr monitor speakers have a slave or paralell out to enable this)

options options.. :)

Ok, so everyone is talking about the FBT Verve 12a FRFR speaker. (12A or 12MA???)

If I bought one, I would plug it into output 2 of the Axe, and send Output 1 to soundguy.

And thats all I need? its really THAT simple?

Done that yesterday
12MA has coaxial speaker and monitor design
12A has separate woofer and tweeter and designed like a normal PA speaker
I have an MA

Ok, so the next questions

How is the FBT Verve powered? Does it have its own power supply? Any issues with shipping internationally and voltage etc?

Anyone in Australia bought one?

Dude, it's just a normal active / powered speaker, so yes: it has it's own built in power supply and comes with a standard ac powercord.

shipping international might always have it's issues:
you might have to pay taxes and / or custom duties, your local voltages may differ from the place you ordered from, the power (end-)plugs might differ from place to place..
sorry, i don't know about the voltages in australia, but if you buy one from an australian reseller, it will surely fit your local "voltage system".
and regarding different plugs, you can always get converters for that, or just change the entire power cable, if if's a standard ac cord i guess.

Have fun with the axe!
