Question about the looper

Hey everyone,

I know yesterday and today are all about the new firmware and rightfully so it has some really cool stuff in it but I have question about the looper block.

I was messing with it for the first time today after I updated my XL and it seems to want to have a dead spot as it loops back around. I have to think this is setting I don't have correct but I'm not sure what to even look for.

Little more info just so I'm being clear. I was playing the intro from the song red by Taylor swift....I know I know don't judge me we play casinos and I play a lot of crappy. Songs like this...anyway. It's really a banjo part on the recording but I play it with yeks acoustic patch. So I record this part specifically the section when she starts to sing and the band comes in. This part plays twice and then the guitar part changes but that banjo plays underneath the guitar part two more counts.

That's what I'm trying to do. But I record it and there seems to be a small gap with no music before the loop starts the phrase again. I no my timing isn't metron perfect but I'm not that bad. Any ideas what I should be looking for? Looper block is at the end of the chain. Where is Chris video when you need it........

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have a hard time getting the tempo right you have to stop the record exactly at the correct time. or it does not come in on 1 correctly. Some times I do get lag when switching presets during loop.

Is that all you think is? Just me not stoping at the right time? My timing is pretty decent I know I'm not perfect but still I'd almost feel like there is a setting that isn't right. Or am I wrong ?

It may not be you I am just saying that is a problem I have But I do not use the looper much on the axe Don't tell any one but I use my old line 6 hd 500 for its looper run it and my axe with fcb1010.

Same problem here man. My one gripe with the axe fx is the looper not having enough time, and being impossible to work without a pedal. So i went and bought a ditto and problem solved. Not saying you should too, but you would get 5 minutes of loop time instead of 20 seconds. Plus you can have infinite overdubs so it's really worth the 70 bucks.

There's a setting in the looper where it syncs to the tempo and will stop right on the beat, not sure where it is as I don't have my Axe on right now (and I never use that setting), but check it in the manual or do a search here, sounds like that might be the cause of the issue you're having.

Quantize is the feature that locks the loop to the tempo. You can also trim the start and stop times for the loop after you record it as well. Check the manual.

It really is 100% about timing. I use the looper daily to tweak hands free and my loops are right on the money with no pauses or gaps.

I never really gave it much thought but when I end the loop, I actually hit the switch right as I play the 1st note, then play the loop physically, then hit the switch again right as I play the 1st note again.

Works for me, and no need to quantize.

My problem was cutting the loop slightly short on the last bar of the looped phrase (quantize would definitely help here). I found what seemed to work best for me was starting and stopping pretty much right on the 1.

Yep. My experience has been that the looper is dead on. Like Severed said, I've been most successful with loopers when I just keep playing the part as I hit the the switch to end the loop. Often what ends up happening is you anticipate hitting the end of the loop and either hit the button too soon and/or rush the end of the part and come up short on the loop.
