I had some speaker/filter foam I had laying around from some tests with the J. Mitchell foam donut deal. The stuff I have is 3/4" thick and 30 PPI open-cell. I put a 10" x 12" piece over the tweeter section.
The difference was very subtle, but audible. It only affected the highs. They where smoother and more diffuse. I play with these at my feet and they could be a bit 'beamy' when sitting in front.
I've had the foam in for about a week and I like it. There is still plenty of highs - this is not a blanket over the amp sound at all. The effect is subtle but it calms the highs and scatters them. It has no effect from the hi-mids on down.
Now this is open-cell stuff - not the closed-cell acoustic deadening stuff. Its a cheap trick. A 36" x 48" sheet cost $20.
