Problems recording with Audacity

I want to make some quick clips with Audacity but I notice that although my signal is not clipping I get a nasty crackle all over my recordings. Quality is set to 48k. Any idea where I should start troubleshooting? Also, I can't seem to set it up so that I can monitor my signal as I'm recording/playing through. (No problem here when using Reaper.) Any Audacity uses here who can help?

Does the crackle persist when exporting the file to a wav mixdown?

Also check the cpu usage of the Axe. USB adds several % that might cause crackling sound. Try to keep it below 90%.

Are you using an audio interface or the Axe as you soundcard?

Yep, crackle is still there after export.
CPU usage is about 50%.
Axe as soundcard.

Do you have a windows partition you can check out? There's some issues with macs and USB, unfortunately.

Also, do you use an USB hub or anything like that?

Try to reinstall the driver ... Sound like problem like that ... I'm a PC user but I was reading about few problems with drivers and some Apple system

Absolutely.

Do you by any chance use a Fusion drive?
