Presenting... The Axe-Fx III

As long as you only need two AMP blocks you might find that one unit works for that many people at once.

There is no mic pre.

The I/O is certainly flexible enough to make this possibly.
It's weird that the axe 2 is able to host 2 amps and 2 cabs, and the 3 has more than twice of that processing power GIVE MOAR AMPS AND CABS BRAH

Cliff said the new controllers weren't backward compatible with the Axe-FX II (series), but did he say the MFC-101 wasn't forward compatible with the Axe-FX III? I see MIDI IN/OUT/THRU on the IO. MIDI CC's are MIDI CC's...

Not trying to sharpshoot you, but I really want this point to be clear if it's correct or not.

I'm a bit lost what going midi only means. Does it mean programming each preset on the MFC manually, entering names etc? If so, I'll just sell it. Too much work to do that.

I've always used faslink.

I do not, however see the CAT5 (or whatever) port...

One of the beta testers said it works via standard MIDI cable. Which kind of sucks, but the new Axe doesn't have the power jack for the MIDI cable either, so you can't power your MFC, I'm afraid.

IMHO it’s a good decision to not include hardware such as mic pres that hardly anyone uses and would bump the price.
I meant that if it could receive line signal from a mic pre one would be able to do all kinds of crazy stuff to a vocal and automate that stuff

I still have the wall wart it came with.

Oh sure it can do it, there are tons of inputs.

I'm using my XL+ for guitar and vocals.

This beast will handle guitar, vocals and bass, I think.

Yeah, but then you need a power outlet where you stand on stage. And now I have everything in our band going trough our central power conditioner. So more cables, more hassle, less reliability. And NOBODY manufactures high quality DIN jacks nowadays.

I'm fine with that. I use an external pre for vocals. Which requires extra wiring but hey, it's a guitar processor.

Yeah if you're serious about recording vox, you'd have a seperate mic pre anyway, with phantom power.

A lot of actual dedicated USB audio interfaces don't have mic pres for this very reason.

I wonder if Analog Devices' phase-out of the TigerSHARC accelerated Fractal's development of the III? Knowing they had a hard time limit for when supplies of a key component would be no longer available, they realized they had to redesign the product.
