I don't know. Do what you want, but maybe you could bypass all the pain and learn the chromatic scale and memorize your intervals.
It'll do you a lot better in the long run, and will take you approximately 10-15 minutes a day for about a month or two to learn every possible note-to-note interval up and down, including leaps past the octave. Then you can tune whatever you want, however you want, whenever you want.
