This is because they are line level inputs, not mic inputs.
Two awesome options for between a mic and Axe-Fx III are the Summit Audio TBA-221 and the FMR-RNP. A nice inexpensive choice is the Rolls MP13. With one or two of these, you could sell the interface.

OK.... this thread really has me thinking about doing this.

What would this application / signal chain / workflow look like if one were to use a single Axe-Fx III unit for studio and live?
