Patch panel screw size for mounting components to the panel

I'm building my first panel by myself, and I have a 1U panel with all the components that I want to attach to it (XLR sockets, Neutrik PowerCon, 1/4inch jacks for guitar etc) but I cannot work out what are the right screws to get.

The panel I have is:

Can anyone advise what is the best sized screw please? It looks like the screw hole diameters are about 3mm, and they are not threaded so I presume I need a bolt/nut type solution? But I have never built my own one before so after searching the net and coming up short I figured I would ask where I know lots of guys have built their own.
 
I use M3 screws with self locking nuts. Some of the sockets are installed from inside and they have M3 holes or 2.8mm holes where you cam tap M3 thread.
