Overdrive vs. Gain

Any anyone explain to me, in simple terms, how the Gain and Overdrive settings interact on models that feature them?

Tried searching all over and found lots of technical discussions but need something a bit simpler along the lines of “increasing/decreasing OD does X to the gain/sound/channel/etc”

They are at different places in the chain. Gain is typically after the input buffer. Overdrive is typically one or two stages later.

But to better understand it, use the looper play a riff, and play with the two controls to hear what it does.
