Ordered an FM9 - Some Questions

Straight forward answer is that the Fractal FM9 sounds great. Some of the most discerning ears on the planet attest to it. That’s not the question, from what I’m reading.

A professional modeler is not built to be simple, it’s built to be capable. That’s what makes it cutting edge. Exploring capability takes educating yourself and learning new skills. Because of this, some players don’t adapt to modelers well, while some do. You might get lucky and find a factory preset that sounds like you want, or close enough to just require some minor tweaks and you’ll be set. You might need to make your own preset and learn some things to make it sound right to you… which you infer you’re not interested in doing.

You’ll need to take a look/listen and see if there’s something simple enough to meet your needs. If not, the real Twin is your answer. There’s not a right or wrong really, nothing works for everyone.

Hey all, I ordered the unit last Friday and I should have it by tonight or tomorrow. Anyway, I have been watching some Youtube videos on programming it, because I want to hit the ground running. I will likely hook the unit up to my computer to work with what certainly seems to be a much easier interface on my monitor, than doing it manually on the machine.

I have a boatload of questions for different amps, cabinets, effects, and styles, but here is one to start with. One of my projects is I play/sing all the Jerry Garcia parts in a Grateful Dead cover band, and among other things, I want to stop carrying around my Fender Twin with (gasp!) two JBL E120's I put into it to replace the stock speakers. If I remember correctly, copyright prevents Fractal Audio from using amp/effects/musicians names exactly in the menus, so when I start programming the unit, and use the Twin settings as my starting point, what are the names/configurations and stuff for a pre-CBS Blackface Twin Reverb (it may have been a super twin back then, but I forget) and are there cabinets/speaker settings in the FM9 for JBL speakers, specifically the E120 or K120?

Also, I read another post in a thread about I think it was the AX-8 where the member commented on how Garcia set his Twin, which was treble all the way up, bass almost all the way down, and the midrange to about 5-6, which is how I have been setting my Twin for over a decade. I assume I need to tweak these in the FM9 settings, as well?

I have a ton more questions about artists/sounds/presets/effects, but I wanted to start with a basic super clean blackface Twin sound.

As a new Fractal user you might want to check out Carter Cooper’s Masterclass for the FM9. Carter’s classes are very comprehensive but easy to understand.
