Yeah, if you are taking a small board with you it would work out pretty well. One caveat is that it it won't drive high impedance headphones, but you'd probably be fine with some 32 ohm ATHs or something.
For travel practice, since I usually have my MacBook Pro, I run Guitar Rig. A guitar to USB cable works fine, and the Macbook drives my 250 ohm DT880s like a champ. It's the most portable practice rig I've come up with, and doesn't sound bad either.
Like said above, I also still drag out the old Rockman as well. It's awesome if I just want to go sit at the beach or something. I never have the batteries though...
Those are amp and cab killers. For headphone use on the road, not so much. I still use an old Pocket Pod for that. But I must give Guitar Rig a try. Or would Helix Native do? Anything where you can plug a guitar into a laptop, smartphone or tablet device basically.
