On fence with 3 and 9

Thanks folks. Ordered the 3. Got 15 days to see if I need more. I'm retired,and with limited mobility its just me and occasionally I sit in with the CD player. Gigging is (mostly) fond memory. If the itch can be scratched for less $$, I should explore that. 3 switches should be fine, I can add a drive or switch presets with that.
 
I’ve had the non Turbo 3 for years now and never felt the need for the 9. With all of the possible changes you can make on the amp detailed parameters I cannot imagine NOT being able to get the tone I want versus the dual amp setup. But maybe that’s just me.

You're in for a treat if you haven't played a Fractal unit before. You will be amazed by the awesome power and sounds of the FM3. If you're plugged in to the computer for the editor while you're jamming, you will have even less need for the extra switches.
 
in the times i've felt 'stretched' in terms of CPU i've typically either found work arounds or different ways of programming to get the same sort of effect without the CPU burn, i really like the footprint of the FM3 on a smallish board

e.g a chorus for a 7 second part , i use a second delay block with low time/modulation settings, does the job without being a proper chorus of course

with gapless a lot of things have really opened up in what you can do,
the smaller footprint on a board means you can more easily add extra pedals if you want (e.g some kind of pitchshifting pedal or other things before the FM3)

for most use cases a FM3/T will probably be enough for most people, if you want more footswitches and DSP for dual amps/reverb etc.. you've got that option in the FM9
 
I gig both a AXE III and the FM3, 150 times a year. Some stages are small hence the FM3, prep the patches properly and it's no issue at all.
