Noise gate settings

How do you set the NG for the high gain patches in order to have "clean" palm mute chugga-chugga but also sustain for the lead parts ?
 
i started putting one before the amp and turning the built in noise gate down so it justs kills amp noise. also imo the block gate/expaner works better. you can also use a volume pedal block on envelope set it to tast and it will respond to ur playing
