Noise Gate Placement

I'm running a couple higher gain patches that could probably benefit from a noise gate in the signal chain. However, I'm not sure exactly where in the chain to place it. I'm experimenting with both before and after the amp, but was just wondering what the general consensus is? I know there's not necessarily a wrong vs. right, but was curious what you guys are doing.

One thing you can do with the noise gate is set the sidechain input to input 1. This will detect noise at the input. This will allow you to lower your threshold and still get good gating. The Axe-fx drive and amp block do not create noise, they only amplify existing noise. By detecting the noise at the source (input), you can get effective gating w/ less aggressive settings.

Java, are you getting different results with the sidechain as opposed to just having the gate first?
