No seamless patch changing for identical routing in 9.0 :(

mind you - it seems a lot smoother now changing patches ! so i am appreciative of that.. going to do some tests now to see if its passable for a live show

seamless definition:

make a patch.. save it.. lets say to spot 50
then save that same patch to spot 51

switch between the 2... they are identical... but it sort of chops in and out. nothing new to load into the CPU so theoretically possible to have an invisible patch change

i know this is possible because guitar rig 3 (and 4 i presume) has a wonderful feature where if the routing and components are identical it just leaves everything running untouched... you can change parameters though... the gain of the amp keeps flowing with no pop or anything but you could say have patch 51 with a gain reduction and a mid boost... a foot pedal turned on... a delay level turned up.. and it all just stays smooth but applies the changes.. they call them 'snapshots'...

GR3 isnt in the same league as the Axe as far as quality goes, but this feature is where its ahead of the Axe-FX..

However I must say... this 9.0 improvement has made the Axe even closer to being seamless! I am actually pretty happy with it now and going to use it on the road with my standard midi foot controller....

I'm pretty certain its now so much of a non issue that our sound engineer wont have a problem with it

In short - im pretty damn happy !!!!

I was about to buy a Liquid Foot Controller and having such a hard time even getting an email response from this Jeff guy with his apparent "incredible customer service"... I think I'll see how i go now with 9.0... looking good !

I remebmber Cliff saying something like... when you load an amp block there are some recursive formula, interactive, and so on... it take some times to stabilize. Like a string plugged. You can add a second istance of the block, let it stabilize then stop the first istance and start the second one. The drowback to this is you need TWICE the CPU/memory power. The PC has lot of memory and latency to "use". The Axefx has no latency and deep/optimal use of CPU and memory.

I use the Axefx only live, and no one complain about chops, silences or anything when switching patches: nor technicians, nor crowd, neither I. I don't know if I am a clever player, changing patches only when muting my axe... or maybe the bands cover the dropout. This is my experience. Keep on rockin!

Patch changes are excellent now IMHO. I have reverb and delay trails set on, and it sounds instantaneous to me. Even better, there are no longer any full-volume bursts when switching between patches will lowered volume pedal settings.

Even a true bypass footswitch takes a few mS to switch :)

I was very happy with the change time before, if its better now it's excellent for such a powerful processor. The real high end processors often have long change times, but not the AxeFX. Neat.

However, is it possible to do what deadletter wants? Actual seamless shift if amp and cab is identical?
