NGD: PRS Tremonti

I did it. I traded my Gibson 1968 Les Paul Custom Murphy Lab Ultra Lightly Aged straight for this PRS Tremonti 10-top core. I'm a little said as there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Gibson. I absolutely loved the LPC, but it didn't inspire me at all. I enjoy writing, but nothing was happening with the LPC. With the PRS Tremonti, the tap has been opened and ideas are flowing.

This is a 2024 PRS Tremonti 10-top. The color is charcoal purple burst. I love how it look changes in certain lighting. Sometimes the burst appears black and sometimes very purple. This is the only guitar I have ever owned where I have no desire to change the pickups or anything other than strap locks.

This is a dream guitar for me. It checks everything I want in a guitar.

Oh, damn ... That's just fracking AWESOME!!!

Congrats! I love the the look of those MT models. I want one, but every time I look at them they are like 8.5+ pounds and I'd like to stay under 8.

Yep, and for me personally....a volume knob at my fingertips so I can do violins....
I got a SC245 but the Tremonti would be nice as well
But I wouldn't mind having a Floyd on it

Beautiful guitar.

I have a Tremonti Treble pickup in my #1 (2013 LP Traditional) & #2 (2024 LTD Eclipse) guitars. Great pickup, kind of a sleeper. I wish there was a 7-String version.

The Tremonti Neck pickup was nothing special IMO, I prefer a DiMarzio PAF Pro at the neck in both guitars.

Congratulations! This model is unique also because it's so difficult to find a guitar of any kind with a four knob control panel and any sort of tremolo system. I've had my eye on the Tremonti for that reason for a long time. So glad it's doing it for you! Don't feel bad at all about moving on from the Gibson; a guitar that doesn't inspire is worthless, no matter how much it's worth in the market!

That is stunning - great flame under that awesome finish - congrats!

Glad you enjoy it! Hope cash came your way ;)
No cash my way, but all good. There was a bunch of places I tried to do an even trade, but they wanted $1000+ in cash as well.

I did swap the pickups and I still have the Gibson '68 custom buckers. I will be putting those up for sale pretty soon.

I'm not much of a neck pickup guy, but I do enjoy it. The Dimarzio PAF Pro is an amazing pickup. I love that completely! The other neck pickups I usually go for are either a Wolfetone Marshallhead or Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell.

The bridge pickup has really grown on me. My favorite bridge pickups have been the Dimarzio Super Distortio, Wolfetone Timbre Wolf, and Bareknuckle Nailbomb. The Tremonti Treble has a lot more hair on it. After adjusting to the different frequencies, I absolutely love it.

Prs put trems on singlecuts in the 2000s and possibly 2010s, pretty much always 4-knob config afaik.

Put a Stetsbar tremolo bridge on your 4 knob TOMatic guitar...
It's non detrimental and reversible.

I don't have that guitar any more, but I tried the Stetsbar on my Epiphone Les Paul, and I couldn't get any stability out of it. Could be my fault, but it didn't help. This was also before the Floyd FRX.

I love the cleans with the PAF Pro, and with the mix of both pickups clean the top end gets a somewhat single coil like sparkle/chime.

High gain lead lines above the 12th fret are a blast with the PAF Pro in the neck, they get that beautiful singing lead tone, a bit of contrast to the razor sharpness of the Tremonti pickup is great, and perfect for my style.

If you ever try the PAF Pro (or any DiMarzio) with the Tremonti you need to reverse hot and ground as the pickups are naturally out of phase with each other. I don’t think it matters which pickup you reverse, I did the DiMarzio.

In a mix that ‘hair’ of the Tremonti becomes cut-through and can be tamed quite easily. I’m pretty sure that 90% of this clip I used the Tremonti, and it’s the LP. It’s not just a ‘metal’ pickup. The backing rhythm is all Tremonti Treble.

The Tremonti Treble is great clean too. I switch back and forth between the two, if you listen carefully you can hear my dirty selector switch LOL. The backing rhythm is all PAF Pro.
