You want a sample player that can use a footswitch, doesnt have to be stompbox format.

I use a Boss RC-500. 3 buttons set for play/stop, memory down, and memory up. Play mode set to one-shot. Pro tip: save your tracks to odd numbered slots and leave the even ones empty. That way if you fat foot the memory up/down when hitting play it doesn’t then play the next one when the first one finishes. Can make it through a show on 4 AA batteries if needed (I use a power adaptor). Might be overkill as I’m not using a fraction of the features but I like the durability and having all controls on the unit, no external switches required. Best solution I’ve found after trying several others.

I use a ditto+

It's super small and you can load it up via USB.

It only takes .WAV as far as I know, but that hasn't been an issue for me.

The only tradeoff for the 1-button and the size is that to stop the loop you have to double-tap to get it to turn off...
Occasionally I single press and it starts recording over my loop. This doesn't really happen anymore now that I have the hang of it.
