My personal experience after 2 years of FM3 is the opposite.
The FM9 is the optimum for my use.
Because I can get rid of the additional MIDI Switches with the 9 switches of the FM9 and my floorboard needs now the same surface as the FM3 floorboard. Only aspect ratio is different.
So portability for me did not change, even overall weight is similar.
And I use several presets where I just need 5-10% more CPU to get them running with the blocks and settings I want, without making compromises.
The Dual-Amp and Cab is an additional nice feature that I may use for recording, but not really needed.
