So I got my Ultra yesterday, put in my rack with my Furman and my Randall RT2/50 power amp, ran the whole thing into my Marshall cab and fired it up.
While agree with most everyone about the stock patches being ok, and the user patches/individual tweaking sounding much better. I was kind of perplexed with the whole cab sim & power amp sim issue. I grabbed some of the soldano, bogner and JCM800 user patches from axechange via axe edit and have to say, that even though I am using a tube power amp and 4x12 cab, they all sound better with the cab and power amp sims on. Without them they sound thin and weak. Do they require more EQ and individual adjustment if I remove the cab and power amp sims or am I missing something (admittedly, I am new to the cab/amp simulation thing)?
I am looking into powered FRFR cabs, and right now it doesn't seem to be worth the money. Of course I could go the SS power amp and FR cab route, but so far the RT2/50 and 4x12 seems ok. Granted I am just a few hours in to tweaking, and don't really have anything to compare it to. But I plan on heading up to my local Guitar Center to A/B/C the tube power amp & 4x12, FRFR powered cab, and SS poweramp & FR cab.
Any additional suggestions, recommendations, advice or comments you wish to add would be appreciated.
