Momentary switch as a hold for delay engagement.

After a necessary board reorganization, I have a leftover momentary switch that I’d like to use as a delay “capture” when engaged, then it plays what was captured until I press it again. It’ll plug into one of the exp inputs of a Morningstar MC6. I have a button on my Voes MX9 that I’ve used to activate a delay “hold” but I’d like to free that button up for something else. Especially since it can’t capture in a hold function since it’s latching (I think….)

How would I go about doing this? I tried to do it before, and I couldn’t get it working correctly.

attach the switch to delay bypass. make sure the bypass mode is set to mute and have the delay in a side chain at 100% mix. attach the secondary switch hold function (as an unused control switch) to delay hold, but in reverse, so hold is min and off is max.
so hit the switch and the delay will un-bypass, but you won't hear any delays until you hold the switch to capture some audio. letting go of the switch will cause the delay to freeze. you can then either hold the switch again during silence to clear the delay buffer, or hit the switch to bypass the delay and mute the delay repeats.
there may be a more elegant way to do this....if there is, hopefully someone will chime in

I appreciate the reply, elegant or not lol

At the moment, I can’t even get the MC6 to do what I’m trying to do. I experimented with Bank Up and Down, and that worked. But for some reason, I can’t get it to just be a switch to send a CC…

I definitely give what you’re saying a shot. It’s the destination not the journey, right hahaha

I did try it using the Expression 1 on the AxeFX, which worked (doing normal hold), but I’d like to keep the whole mechanism on the board. I may end up going back to that and just doing your thing

Did you try Morningstar support?

Are you using the morningstar editor?

If its sending a cc then the axe needs to know what that cc is doing as well.

I'm confused on the bolded above. I've done a few things using control switches (on an old FM3 so it's been awhile) but I can't quite wrap my brain around doing it in this case. Could you explain it a bit more?
