Midi Freezing or something

I had a problem on Sunday where the midi light stayed on, went to patch 001 and didn't respond to my GCP.

I unplugged the midi cable and the light went off but came back on when I plugged it in again.

I powered down the Ultra and powered it back up and the light came back on

I unplugged the power to the GCP and the light went off but came back on when I plugged it in again.

I wiped the memory on the GCP, still the same.

I disconnected everything and brought it all home.

and it seemed fine, and then it did it again I unplugged everything quickly and it stayed on and then after a couple minutes went off of its own accord.


Just did it again, just went to change patch and it went to patch 001 and the light stayed on.

This is the first time this sort of thing has happened what's going wrong, is my GCP or the Ultra causing this?

Update:

After more investigation if I power the GCP directly rather than the 'phantom power' way from the Fractal, I don't get the problem.

So it could be the midi cable shorting a power pin to a signal pin or something similar on either the GCP or Fractal unit.

I'll get the multi meter out tonight and maybe order a new cable (the more likely culprit)
