Here is a left field idea:
I use a Boss GT-3 multi- effects pedal as a MIDI controller. With it I can access 340 presets and it is incredibly well built, robust and easy to use. As a bonus, in bypass mode I can use it as a headphone amp! Another plus is it can be set up as a back-up FX unit (although not as good as AxeFX).
So far I have only worked out how to change presets with it, but I think it is also possible to use the expression pedal as a MIDI continuous controller.
I don't know what they go for in U.S., but it can't be much as they are well and truly outdated as an FX unit. Probably under $100, I imagine
