Midi Captain vs Morningstar?

Hi everyone,
Back to Fractaland but unable to find FC6 where I live.
Anyone have both the Midicaptain on Amazon and MC6? Any pro and con? Used MC6 is more expensive than brand new Midicaptain in my area.
Thanks

The Midi Captain is great with the new "super mode" but it's a bugger to program. Once you can do it it works great. I have mine with a wireless dongle which is reliable as long as it's charged sufficiently.

MC6 I'm sure is a better controller but it's around $600 here in Aus, compared to about $300 for the Midi Captain. The Midi captain has just been released in 2/4/6 button versions, but they can't have wireless operation. The Midi captain itself runs on rechargeable batteries so you can have the Fractal at the back of the stage if you dare!!

6 CC/PC per button is correct. You could easily extend this with the command "IA On/Off" where you activate another IA (which can be an unused button normal or long press. There are 36 IA's available)

But the function "Per Preset PCs and CCs" is probably better suited for you. This gives you apart from the 6 PC/CC per button, 8 additional PC's and 4 additional CC's per preset. Check this video.

If you want more info send me a PM or check the website

Hi. Thanks a lot. I’ll do a real check on what i need.

I bought a MIDI Captain to go with my new FM3. I am used to having 5 sounds instantly available with my trusty but dated and heavy setup (Diezel VH4 into a Two Notes VB-101, TC Nova System for effects and a Tech 21 MIDI Moose for general control). In addition to that, I can switch individual effects on/off on the Nova System + Tap Tempo at all times. It is a very flexible setup that pretty much covers 100% of my needs. But the amp weighs about 2 tonnes and the pedal board is about the size of a football field.

That being said, one of my priorities was having a similarly flexible setup but at the same time maximizing portability. I setup the FM3 with the MIDI Captain in one of its pre-installed super-modes. 2 switches on the right are preset up/down. The other 8 switches go directly to the 8 scenes. In addition to that, the FM3 switches are programmed to turn 3 effects on/off individually, if I decide it's necessary. With this setup I'm golden and it took about zero effort to program. There is another mode on the MIDI Captain where those 8 buttons are scene 1-6, tap tempo and tuner and another one that controls the looper functionality. It's all pre-programmed so it worked for me as-is. The only thing is, you need to make sure that your user presets are in the correct place between 0 and 127 on the FM3 to make it effortless.

I can't comment on the quality of the switches and the longevity of the product. One thing that might bother me one day, is the closeness of the switches to each other and that the MIDI captain cannot communicate bidirectionally with the FM3. But for now, I have a working setup.

Cheers,

Till
