MFC-101 going to framware update mode?

i powered up my axefx2 and my MFC went to framware update mode?
no buttons would work, powered off and on nothing
the only way i got it to run through startup mode is to unplug the MFC and plug it back in while the axefx2 was powered on.
i just dont want this to happen at the gig tonight.
is there any steps i should take to prevent it or to fix it if it happens again?
its never happened before

I'm guessing that the switch got stuck and was actually engaged while you powered up. You probably hit all the switches when it was in that update mode and loosened it. Then power cycling it made it come back to normal simply because the switch wasn't stuck anymore.

It probably won't happen again unless you are storing it so that the switch is pressed down for a long time.
