Marshall Users w/Ultra

I haven't plugged into an amp in 20 years. I inherited a JCM 900 half stack I would like to noodle with. Would it be preferable to run guitar/axe/Marshall with axe set to mono or try to hook up via return/send.

I primarily record so I will maintain my connections to my audio card via XLR outputs.

Any help you could render to this geezer would be mucho appreciated. Thanks.
 
Correct, Output 1 to Marshal Effects Return.

BTW, I setup my original patches at home using headphones and not so great near field monitors, the blew chunks through the Marshal so best to do as much tweaking as possible at band volume and through your preferred hookup. Good luck!
