I am also wanting to upgrade my OS on my MacBook Pro (purchase in 2019 or so). My MacBook Pro doesn't use the M1 chip, it uses the Intel microprocessor. I have held of upgrading my Mac OS due to obsoleting my AX8 - Edit which is a huge disappointment. What you are experiencing is the main reason I didn't upgrade the OS. You can't go back once you convert.
What version of the OS were you running your AX8 edit on before you started having problems with Sonoma? Was it Venture OS and did that cause any issues? If Ventura works I can at least upgrade to that OS.
