Looper Synchronization Timing Latency

I was never really happy with the Fractal looper—my loops never lined up perfectly with the metronome, and I even started to think it was my fault.

By chance, I think I’ve found the solution: after disabling the Hold function on the footswitch (which, by default, is assigned to both Play/Stop and Master Layout when you hold it), my loops have been PERFECTLY in sync.

Has anyone else noticed this? I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone else complain about it, AFAIK. Maybe the default Looper layout should be revisited.

Interesting. In my FM3 layout, I have one of my buttons assigned to Play / Stop, and the hold function goes to another layout. I haven't had any issues. Which FW are you running?

AFAIK, This is just how it is with press and hold footswitches.

If you have the hold feature enabled, then the looping works on the release of the switch. As you noted, if you disable it, then it should work on the press of the button and much easier to keep in time.

Firmware 12.

By default I had Master Layout on hold function on footswitch PLAY (which I removed as you can see in the image)

I can tell you the difference is night and day!

Sort of depends on how you hit the switches. Some folks linger and are slow to release the switch so the fire on release is way late. Other folks tend to very quickly pop the switch with their toe, so the fire on release is much closer to the tap timing. It will still be late compared to no hold function assigned, but less noticeably so.

I’ve had these timing issues since 2022, when I bought my FM3. Before that, I never had any timing issues with the TC Electronic Ditto, my previous looper pedal. I was able to confirm for myself that the hold function introduces latency.
