Looper question

Just saw this video with Adrian Belew where he talkes about his AXE-FX

He has only two pedals, one for volume and one exp. pedal - just like me.

But he starts to play a Crimson figure where he makes a loop to play along to with just pushing forward his exp.pedal

How is that possible ? I thought that it could only be done by midi cc ?

its a delay effect i think, not a loop.

Yes I also belive it must be something like that. Maybe he uses two different rows with the same amp/delay setup with a long time and maybe only one repeat and then via mixer pans between the two ?

Is he using a toe switch on the pedal?
