Not a Bug Looking for input on patches or effects for clean long sustain

Hello,

I am working on a song that requires a lot of volume swells to add color. I am using the AC-20 amp and a lot of reverb but I feel like my notes are fading out too quickly. Any tips on compressor settings, other effects, or patches to try to make notes last longer?

Thanks,
Marvin

Since you're using a lot of reverb with swells, I'm guessing you're wanting an ambient wash? If so, increase the Time parameter in the Reverb block to get the length of trail you want. Also experiment with the different Sustainer compressor types with a longer 'Release' setting, I seem to prefer the JFET Sustainer.

Clean swells can be tricky. By the time you swell in, the volume of the guitar has already lost most of it's initial burst of volume.
  • Could some of the problem by coming from your guitar?
  • Try setting the Amp dirtier than you need. It will clean up by the time you swell in.
  • Try using a Compressor with a decent amount of compression.
  • A higher mix and/or a longer time on the Reverb and/or Delay can help artificially extend the notes.
  • More volume in the room will interact with the guitar body/strings increasing sustain.
