Learn DSP Programming

Are there any DSP programmers here or experts in the field that can point me to where to get started in learning DSP programming?

My background is Computer Science / Math, and I've been a C#, angular, SQL developer for the last 10-12 years starting right out of college. I understand normal object-oriented languages and some higher-level math, but I know DSP programming is in a league of its own.

I've also built a few guitar pedals and amps from scratch. I obviously have nowhere near the understanding that the Fractal team or Cliff have, but I somewhat know how they work.

Can anyone point me to the right resources to start learning this subject? I learn best by doing and by example. And I wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on equipment, I'd rather spend that money on Fractal gear which actually sounds and works. Not sure if you have to go down the route of buying a hardware development kit (Analog Shark stuff is ridiculously expensive), or if there are good x86 / x64 DSP emulators.

Thanks all!
