Latest update fm9 turbo mkii fizzy issues:

A bunch of my fractal exchange presets on my fm9 turbo mkii, like 70’s rock, 80’s metal, 90’s grunge all sound fizzy now. See this phenomenon posted alot on firmware updates here. This is the first time it happened for me. (Latest firmware)

Hoping the Jedi masters can chime in?

What are some of best practices/steps for easy fix ? 😅 My first thought was reducing gain in various places ?

Can you please post some references because I don't agree that this is "posted a lot on firmware updates"?

Double check to make sure the global Power Amp and Cabinet Modeling settings are both enabled.

Did it change a lot or just a little? What FW you came from and went to?

A recording would be helpful too that exposes the observed fizzyness... if possible isolated, with a before and after fw update :)
(Add a DI track and preset, and people might even be willing to help you with specific settings.)

When you say that it is posted a lot, you can probably also find the best practices/steps for easy fix ;)

thank you for the reply and detailed questions. bare with me here. at 54 am not wizard of the fm9 tech. updated from whatever the latest firmware was before this latest. searched for those fizzy tone posts but can't find them now? for example, i was using a fractal exchange for the "eagles live 1980" that was imported in. Was great before the update. I did not backup before update so can't give audio sample. It almost sounds a bit "DI" ish. pulling gain back in various places helped but it's happening on all the presets i have now since this. update. is there a way to revert back to the previous firmware (right before this new beta) and still keep my presets?

You can load the old firmware. Make sure you backup your presets before changing firmware, especially if you are bouncing back and forth between versions.

So far the best thing that has helped is Amp Block Reset by simply switching to a different Amp and then back. I just took a few screen shots of the original in case to help tweak the reset if needed. Specifially which speakers were being used :)

Post a preset and recording…

I’m not setup to record and it’s on every amp model and preset I’m using. I hit a chord and in the background I hear the noise. It blooms a bit and then decays. It’s not a bad thing but I didn’t notice this until FW12. There has always been harmonics, intermodulation distortion, and other artifacts in clipped tubes and the models do that too. It’s just a bit different and more prominent now in FW12. To my ears anyway. This is on phones. On speakers it’s not so noticeable.

Yep agreed.

I figured it out. No more fizz. After reloading firmware and making adjustments I realized my in ears had been swapped on me……. Nothing to do with the FM9. Time to throw out my cheap backup in ears…..

Win!

Nothing like a firmware update to call attention to deficiencies in other gear. :) Don’t feel bad. It happens all the time. “The new firmware sounds bad.” “Oh, wait, there’s this broken other thing in my signal chain.”
