So, what did I think of the Klon Centaur when I first saw the schematic? Well, it certainly isn't a tubescreamer or other common overdrive clone. It truly is an original circuit which utilizes some great ideas.

The Klon basically splits the signal into 3 parts - highs, mids and lows - the mid and low sections are "eq"ed and the highs are run through an overdrive circuit before the three parts are mixed back together again with an opamp mixer section - which is run off a charge pump supplying a dual polarity supply to stop any further clipping taking place. As the gain is increased the level of mids and lows present in the final mix is reduced, this is controlled via a dual taper pot which simultaneously increases the overdrive gain and reduces the level of the mid and low sections. The tone control is an active treble boost/cut allowing the level of the highs to be adjusted to taste.

Yes !

I'm sure Cliff can model it faster than it actually takes to order and receive a real one  !

I have a Klon Centaur - so I will try and record some audio for y'all with the Klon running into the Axe to see if you like it and think it is different than what we already have. Got a gig tonight so check back tomorrow-ish.

Here is a patch for you to get the KLON Centaur sound with everything at 12 O'Clock on the pedal:

Put a Drive Block in front of a mildly clipping Amp model (FAS Crunch or similar) and here is a formula that sounds identical to the Klon when punched in and out to my ears:

DRIVE BLOCK:

Super OD
Drive: 2.05
Tone: 3.90
Level: 6.93
Slew: 7.95
Mix: 100%

Keep in mind that the Klon is often used to clean boost the front end of an already clipping tube amp - usually with the GAIN turned all the way down (off). For this I would use just the basic NULL FILTER trick and EQ to taste or maybe the other clean boost in the drive block.

The Klon at max gain only gets about DRIVE: 6.5 - 7 or so - probably not even that. It is a great pedal when you have a clipping tube amp - but I think we already have it dialed in the axe. ;)

I gave it a spin, I definately like it.
Thanks!

If the sound can be duplicated in the Axe already then there isn't much point in modeling it, but of course spakuloid matched the Centaur at 12:00, so it's possible its "parameter space" does not overlap the Axe elsewhere. You might be able to get the rest of the way with a filter or crossover, a couple EQs, and a mixer, but that's a fairly complicated setup for one effect.

This does suggest to me that it could be valuable to have either some kind of multiband distortion (set the split points between each band, and then independent drive for each band), or just better tone controls in the drive block (perhaps in the mythical advanced page).
