JFET Compressor Issue - Not Compressing?

Tell me I'm crazy...but it just seems that no matter what settings I'm using on the JFET Compressor block, it's just not compressing...almost at all! Here's a vid showing the issue:

Thats weird. It look like it compressing a lot on the meter, but it doesn‘t sound compressed. When I use the Jfet with compression on 5 it sounds very compressed. I have no idea why it doesn’t here though.

Are you sure the signal you're hearing has gone through the compressor? Check the mix knob if there is one, parallel uncompressed signal paths, etc.

"mic knob"? Did you mean "Mix"? If so, he demonstrates that in the video.

There's no parallel path around the compressor in the preset.

Can I suggest trying it on a cleaner sound? You’ve got compression later on in the chain which will (along with the delay) mask it alot

I have no active compression later in the chain.

The release time is fairly short. You might try increasing that.

The meter is indicating a lot of compression happening - up to 26dB-ish.
This proved to show the compressor is indeed working. A longer release made the compressor more apparent, for sure.

And there IS a noticable difference when I play quietly and A/B the compressor on and off.

I guess I still would have assumed I'd notice a bigger difference with my current settings. But maybe that's just how this compressor operates.

Increase the release time and turn the drive block off, then A/B..

Until the most recent beta firmware, the JFET was my go-to... However, I use very moderate settings with very fast attack and release, plus Mix at 60%. My goal is really to smooth pick attack transients.

The current beta revamped the Compressors and now I get some odd noise during note decay with my settings.

I switched over to the Dynamicomp type and that is pretty nice, give that one a try.

Also, I did just notice you have Lookahead set to max. What if you lower that?
