is the AXE III USB 3.x?

Here's a video I just made to demonstrate the USB-C debacle:

Explanation:

This is a USB-B to USB-C cable I bought directly from Apple to connect my AX8 (USB-B) to my MacBook (USB-C), running AX8-Edit.

The cable by itself does establish a connection, AX8-Edit won't connect.

The same cable, now with its USB-C end going into a Satechi MulitPort adapter, which then connects to the Mac's USB-C port: works!

Note that the Satechi here just functions as an extension (pass-through) of the USB-C end, nothing more.

This is EXACTLY why it would've been nice to have USB-C included (as well as USB-B) in the Axe III. That way you wouldn't need those silly converters or any dongles/hubs! ;)

As far as bandwidth goes, I couldn't be bothered. If you guys say USB 2 cuts it, I believe you. I just think it's sad not to have the newest I/O connector port.

yeah I know what you mean.
would be nice if companies just stopped rushing new ports every 6 months and settle on a compatibility truce.

The compatibility truce is primarily between Apple and the rest of the industry. USB-C (only the connector, not the USB 3.1 protocol) exists to solve a number of problems in previous designs including but not limited to increased duty cycle (plug, unplug, plug), support increased i/o speeds, FINALLY an either-way-works male to female port design (cue the jokes). It's one thing to iterate and improve; it's another thing entirely to intentionally block out the rest of the ecosystem. Is Thunderbolt an apple-only protocol? No. Is USB technically better than Thunderbolt from a performance standpoint? No. But it is certainly not as widespread as USB and more expensive to implement. Apple chose Thunderbolt because they could push their own peripherals while blocking third party markets already invested in the much more prevalent USB. Note that micro USB connector was released in 2007 and C didn't come along until 2014. A few more years before they hit mainstream devices. You were probably joking with your 6 month comment but nonetheless it should be noted that USB does not iterate frequently.

Edit: The EU already released regulation that requires certain types of manufacturers to use a standard connector to avoid landfill waste (USB mini, then micro, now C), and Apple just ignores it for their phones/pads and pays the fines.

We don't have the resources to do both. USB is hard enough. Product development is difficult and costly. I think we did an exceptional job.
in my experience Apple has abandoned the niche music industry DAWs that use to thrive and MS seams to be better "Adapt one needs to" says a wide old Yoda.
