Introducing ICONS - Amp Modeling + FX - Plugins & Standalone

I and thousands of others literally despise iLok. Fairly shocked you went in a failed direction that consumers are so incredibly sick of.

Logic on this move?
Failed, as in no reputable companies use it?
Really?

I have ilok stuff from UA, Eventide, AIR, Sound Toys, UVI, SSL, Metric Halo, PSP, XILS, Wave Arts, and Izotope. Some of those may have non-ilok versions available, don't remember, but those are real companies whose software I'd like to use.

Very cool. Assuming that other Amp Block families and FX Blocks like Pitch become available
in the future, i can imagine the future being totally plugin host based. Imagine a totally
modular Fractal setup with a quality hardware plugin host and multiple instances of each Block.

Like so much other bashing, I can't fathom what peep's major malfunction is with iLok - jeez - they gotta protect their software somehow eh! I've used it for years - activate the software in iLok and then forget about it. There's not an issue here I can see.

Most players don’t want everything—they want the amps they actually use.
I would argue that a good number of bedroom guitar players don't stick to just one genre/family of amps and I certainly can't see modern gigging musicians sticking to one family either. I couldn't imagine only playing one. So boring. We live at a time of versatility and experimentation. If i wanted to play one amp or family of amps I'll just buy a real fender amp and call it a day. If you think a guitar player is only going to buy and use a single family then it doesn't matter if all amps families are included since they will still just use the one, right? The only thing that makes sense to me is that you counting on a people buying more than one family. Nothing wrong with that if that is the intent.

What exactly are you upset about?
That the initial release is a bundle of one family of amps, when people might eventually want more than one?
Sheesh.

Sorry, i thought saying they weren't being transparent about "it" seemed accusatory.
Well, im sure if he has a problem with it he can just remove it right? No need for you to pounce on every comment you don't agree with. Changed the wording so it doesnt seem accusatory.

I could live with a single Mesa Mark and some pedals, that could cover pretty much everything I could ever need.

But 30 Fender amps are a variation of the same thing.

But no one ever seems to have an issue of having tons of drive pedals which are technically many variations of a few lol. I rather have more variation in amps / cabs than drives as you can change the amps / cabs with more options for tone shaping.

I personally don’t care about drive pedals much, could never really understand this sport. 🤷‍♂️

I mean, if you have a fender amp you kinda have to use pedals, but since the invention of modeling…

Apparently everyone just wants their own personal Fractal Archetype or something lol
Actually no, that archetype thing is extremely annoying.

Helix Native is the type of plugin that I want.

Archetype though is a more lucrative model for the makers, I’d guess. And the released “collection” looks more like an Archetype thingie. Which would be okay if those collections can be added to one amp/plugin at least, not as separate entities NDSP style.

Ideally I'd prefer the Amplitube approach, where you pay a premium for the base plugin, then buy amps/effects individually. I'd rather not have to cycle through multiple plugins to change tones.

But the "family" approach still works well, I think. I'm very curious how they'll break them up though, since it seems each will use different effects and cabinets.

As a basement Ax3 hacker, I can't see a reason for me to get this right now,
Off the top of my head, it lets you use more instances of whatever plugin than you’d be able to with the hardware. Ever wondered what snare mic sounds like through a guitar amp? Pretty cool, actually, and you might not have the blocks available if you’re already running a big guitar preset on your AxeFX III.

That assumes he's recording...

Was just wondering what the planned schedule of releases for the next batch of amps / updates? I know right now that is prob up in the air.... I am all for this but like many, Vox-ish and higher gain stuff. Once they drop the Herbie, game over man.
