Definitely single coil mode for the attack, and yes he mentioned to aim for Plexi sound in I'm awake, maybe a bit of compresor too!
BTW in the intro the lead guitar if I'm not mistaken uses the neck pu, listen to the arpeggio, I swear it's neck pu
