Internet/WiFi for new house

I can vouch for this. Exact same system I have. My outdoor studio building is 23' ft from my main house. This mesh system comes with three routers. Two are in my house and one is in my studio building. The distance between the main (wired) router in my house and the mesh router in my studio is approximately 30'. The main router is near a window in my house and has a decent line-of-sight to the studio (but not the third mesh router in there so it has to punch through the studio wall). I have cable internet service of 1Gbps and I average about 450 Mbps in my studio from the mesh router placed in there. It is a very good mesh router system. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the testimonial. I will definitely consider this!

I'm guessing you've not had any issues or signal drops with this? I too get 1Gbps cable internet.

Not at all. I'm not doing anything crazy out there though, apart from occasionally streaming a movie, internet, YouTube, updating my FM3, etc. Just consider what you REALLY need out there before you get too crazy and turn it into a major project. I've gone down that road too many times over the years and have waited money unnecessarily.

Definitely a fair point. My main goal is to achieve good signal in the studio building while also trying to spend money wisely in a system that will not become obsolete in a few years.

My internet use pretty much matches yours. The only other use I'd have is for the security system and cameras, but the WiFi should be able to take care of that.

At some point, this mesh system may become obsolete as WiFi moves into the next generation but probably not for a good long time. And BTW, I also have an Arlo Security System camera on the very backside of the studio and it never skips a beat. The main Arlo Hub router sits right next to my main mesh router, for a point of reference (approximately. 45' away).

If you hide your SSID, then every device you own that's connected to it will be shouting that SSID over the airwaves literally everywhere they go looking to see if it happens to exist where they are. If it's not hidden, they just connect opportunistically when they see it advertised.

I'm in the process of moving into a new house. This house comes with a "bonus" house which is basically a detached garage that has been converted into a small living space. This will be where I'll move my studio into.

My current house has a pretty standard router into modem setup that has been serving me well since I purchased them over 5 years ago.

I have very little experience setting up anything more complicated than what I have. My research has introduced me to more business grade options that can be more robust and provide adequate coverage to the new house and detached studio space.

Specifically the UniFi offerings have caught my eye.

Any tips/suggestions are definitely welcome! Thanks!
I have all Unifi here at my house. What can I say... yeah I over-engineered my network :)

24 port POE switch + U6 pro + Dream Machine Special Edition, 4 room drops each with 4 cables + made use of all existing "telephone ports" (thankfully they used cat5e cabling for those and all where functional to 1G)
