Yes it does, but interestingly enough it got even fainter (I just saw one of the out-clip leds blink once). In fact, the phenomenon continued to stay faint even after I retried with the USB-plugged in.

I am well aware of that, I was simply seeing if I could replicate the OPs 'issue', not complaining, pal.

Don’t even joke about it!

Don’t worry. Good old R2D2 has been in service since the 70s. If you can get 40 years out of your FM9, you’re way ahead of the game.
