Humbuster cables?

I just got my FM9, and I've read about these humbuster cables. I'm kinda confused about where they should be used. I'll be running my FM9 one of two ways.

1. Guitar into FM9 > FM9 output 1 to PA, output 2 to active FRFR

2. Guitar into FM9 > FM9 output 1 to PA, output 3 to power amp into guitar cab

Would using these humbuster cables offer any benefits?

Humbuster cables would help reduce any ground loop noise using the 1/4" jacks of Outputs 2 and 3. If you're able to use XLR cables with the FRFR and Power Amp, that would be the better option.

If you're going from the FM9 to a standard Power amp to power a guitar cabinet, you probably won't need the humbuster. You're not doing anything like 4-cable method that may introduce a ground loop.

However, it wouldn't hurt to have a pair on hand that you keep with you in a pinch. I've had to go out of Output 1 1/4inch outs to a substandard club mixer because they were out of XLR inputs.

These cables can function as utility items "just in case".

I’m routing the audio from my Axe FX II XL+ into a Synergy preamp that sits in an effect’s loop block on the Fractal. Working better than expected, especially since I can put a gate in the path between the loop, Tube Amp with copied power amp settings (copied from the Powerball amp) and IR block. It’s a little noisy but so are the amp sims with the gate disabled.

For giggles I ordered a TS to TRS converter. If I use that on my Axe FX out 2 to the Synergy input is that all I need to do or should I have another humbuster go from the Synergy to the input 2 of the Axe FX?

Either way it’s working pretty good…

1. Guitar into FM9 > FM9 output 1 to PA, output 2 to active FRFR
Output 2 are XLR, which are balanced. Run an XLR -> XLR cable to the FRFR and you're good. XLR -> balanced TRS is OK too. Don't run an XLR -> TS as that defeats the balance.
2. Guitar into FM9 > FM9 output 1 to PA, output 3 to power amp into guitar cab
This is where the Humbuster can really help. All the 1/4" outputs on the modeler are Humbuster, which can reduce or remove ground-loops. I keep an XLR -> XLR and a Humbuster in each of my FRFR bags so, no matter the stage setup and modeler I'm using, I can connect.

Ground-loops occur when the modeler and whatever you're connecting it to are on A/C circuits with different paths to ground. The electricity can end up traveling across the signal cable connecting the units, be amplified resulting in a 60Hz note, then go to ground. Besides being noisy, it has potential to shock you which can ruin a perfectly good day.

See section 4 in the manual and find your configuration and see what Fractal recommends.

I ordered a TS to TRS converter
That's probably not going to be wired correctly to substitute as a Humbuster, and defeats the Humbuster technology if the TS is plugged into the modeler. TS -> TS is OK, but a cable that is correctly wired is better.

See pgs. 6, 21 and Section 4 in the manual, and Humbuster in the Wiki for lotsa more infos.
