Looking for Menu Image - detailed instruction on how to connect Axe-Fx II + AudioFront USB
NOT SPECIFIC TO VOLUME OR WHAMMY. JUST WHERE IS "CC" in the menu?

~ Thank you

Gear:
  • Axe-Fx II XL
  • Roland EV-5
  • AudioFront USB IO
  • MIDI Cable
Where exactly in I/O TAB> to set CC 7?

thanks to : unix-guy

You have the pedal on the IO set to midi CC #7 (and Midi channel 1):
You have the Whammy controlled by External Controller 2.

On the Axe Fx in the global Midi menu you can set the midi CC# for External 2 to be 7. Then it should work (also make sure that the Axe Fx is set to midi channel 1, or else adjust the IO to send on the same channel).

Note that CC#7 might already be assigned to control something else so you might need to check the midi assignments.

You should use an expression pedal, not a sustain pedal or a volume pedal. A sustain pedal operates differently and a volume pedal isn't linear so for most things (like Whammy) it won't work as expected.

Is there a reason you're not using the pedal jack directly on the Axe Fx for this?

I'd suggest you create a forum post if you have additional questions as that allows others to help that may have more relevant current experience.

To set CC 7 in the "Global Midi Menu" on the Axe-Fx II, you need to find the section related to MIDI settings. This can usually be found in the "Global Settings" or "Global MIDI" menu. Next, find the option related to volume control and set it to CC 7. Make sure the Midi Channel is also set to 1 if necessary for your configuration.
No, he says he is setting up Whammy. It's not related to Volume control.

Additionally, it's more flexible to assign it to an External Controller because that can be assigned to different things in different presets (or potentially even scenes).

The Global volume will only control volume and it will be on every preset.
