How to Achieve Boss PH-3 Step Phaser Effect?

All - I need a little help figuring out a good way to achieve the effect of the Boss PH-3 phaser in "Step" mode. There are a couple sound clips below for reference. Try not to cringe too hard, these were the only recordings I could find of the pedal. I literally recorded these 16 years ago when I had probably logged less than 40 hours on the guitar. But you'll get the idea of the sound of the pedal. Thanks in advance for the help!

Setting the LFO type to square will give you that chopping effect instead of a smooth sweep. The Random type will make it jump around. You can also try setting the rate and depth to their minimum and assigning the sequencer controller to the frequency parameter of the phaser block. You can then dial in the number and level of the steps that you want.

Check out the factory default preset called something like "crawling in the dark" (a hoobastank preset). It sound pretty close to the Boss phaser to my ears.
