Welcome to Houston! I would agree with avoid the East side lol. I live in the spring/woodlands area after living downtown for a number of years and love it. I don't have a daily commute at the moment so that probably has a lot to do with it but its not a bad drive into the city when I do. Plenty of cool venues around downtown and some around the woodlands. If you are looking for any guitar repair, Nedd guitars in the woodlands is amazing. Neil Sargent off Washington ave is also another go to that offers quick turn around and super cheap.
