Well I'm happy to report that I think it was gain staging for the most part. My old patches were fairly low volume and had to be turned up a lot. So I loaded a few new factory presets and used them as watermark for volume. During my pre gig testing I was getting feedback but only at very loud settings and essentially no noise gate.
