Does the vsx is great on his own?
I’m sure it’s awesome with the plug-in but what about just plug-in straight to the fm3?

They actually are fantastic sounding headphones on their own. You will find that many others agree with this sentiment.

I would highly recommend the AKG K240 Mk II studio headphones which are semi open back. Semi backs IMO work the best for guitar playing. I love them with my FM3 and they are a decent price, not expensive at all for quality studio headphones. They have a detachable cord which really adds to their longevity as its usually the cords that go first on headphones.

I had purchased some AKG closed back headphone which sounded awful, especially with the bass register of the guitar tones. I ended up giving these to my Daughter to watch movies with lol.

I've tried many having worked in the music industry for over 30 years. My current favorite headphone are Yamaha MT8, but nothing compares to the experience of listening to my FM3 through my Ultimate Ears UE18+. For me they are the closest thing to standing in front of a blazing amp!
