Very interested to hear your results.
I love my SRX722 tops, so the 712 would be a nice Axe monitor for me (as tones I dial in on the 712, would probably translate excellent on 722's that are my PA tops).
Well had some time today with the JBL, sounded really good no big surprise since I have heard them before but nothing like hearing them in your home environment.
The only thing I can really compare them to is my passive Atomics powered by the GT800. The funny thing I have also been following the RCF’s for a while also, in particular been following “Rick” lately since he just got his RCF and also has an Atomic. I bring this up because although Rick went with RCF and I went with the JBL when compared to out Atomics I have some pretty similar views.

But some up front differences: Although the RCF is a coaxial and the JBL is not, I found the off axis pretty even all around, the Atomics would sometimes disturb me where I walked.
The bass on the JBL was much tighter, with the Atomic could get a little flubby at higher volumes I think allot of it was not so much the speaker but the way the cabinet resonated. Usually just cutting about 3-4db on the graphic EQ at around 63hz took care of this. Not needed with the JBL’s. The bass is also ample, tight but plenty of it.
The JBL has more presence and high end. “Maybe” Explain that in a min.
Just sparkles more is the best way to put it the presence and high end are very pleasant and not fatiguing to the ear. What I mean by the “Maybe” comment I keep the Atomics at 12:00 with the crossover control there are times I would prefer it a bit higher but the then the high end does start becoming fatiguing to the ear.
Another thing I like about the JBL’s. When I record I use a pair of near field monitors whatever I have created with them translates perfect to the JBL’s no tweaking needed whatsoever the same would not be true for the Atomics.
So yes I am happy with my purchase but don’t rule out the Atomics if on a budget they held up pretty well in my quick little side by side. After all the JBL is allot more coin.
