Just heard Go Robot for the first time today, totally cool song.

I'm looking for help on how generate the synth type sounds. Feels like this sound be do-able on Axe.
The clean sound is also darn good - any pointers on which amp would sound best?

That song is a killer, especially this disco baseline is awesome (played live with 2 bases on stage !). The guitar sounds like it has been fed directly into the desk via a compressor. Check out the live version :

I like that guitar sound too and it's more like what the Axe can do for you.
 
Josh is a kind of The Edge in my self opinion. The last album in live is very good! I don't really know if it can help but this is the rig rundown they made few months ago :
