Giving Tuesday Fundraiser for the SRCA
Greetings, friends of the SRCA!
What a year it’s been! Even with the ongoing issues presented by the pandemic, we have been able to safely return to a somewhat normal schedule of our learning and recreational activities for adults with disabilities. We had our first summer camp sessions in two years, serving dozens of campers at the Shady Oaks Camp Grounds in Homer Glen. Our attendees had the time of their lives after suffering through a year of hardships dealing with the Covid 19 virus. Instead of being locked away in their homes, our campers enjoyed swimming, carnival games, weekly concerts, campfires, sports and so much more at our beautiful new home at the Shady Oaks camp grounds. We had wonderful visits from the inimitable Rosie the Balloon maker, amazing talent shows featuring the campers, petting time with the Greater Chicago Ferret Association and the Crosstown Exotics reptiles, crazy scavenger hunts, tons of camper karaoke, lots of swinging playtime on the huge playground and a weekly live version of our daily online camp.
Speaking of our online camp, we continue continue to grow at an amazing rate. We now serve over 50 people each day, 5 days a week, with games and activities chock full of fun and learning, music, friendship building and so much more.
We have also returned to offering respite weekends and holiday parties for our community, with two successful sessions in the books for the 2021 Fall season. Respites will resume in March of 2022- watch our website and social media outlets for more information on exact dates and additional info.
On this Giving Tuesday, we're writing to ask you to please join us in our mission to enhance and improve the quality of life for adults with disabilities. For over 70 years, thanks to wonderful donors like you, we have served thousands of individuals and their families through life-enriching social and recreational programs. With your help we are able to provide these quality activities at low to no cost for those who need it most, so we hope you will continue to support our life-enhancing programs for adults with disabilities.
