FX8 compatibility with a Marshall JVM 410H (channel switching)

Hello everyone,
I live in France and the FX8 will be delivered soon.
I am on the waiting list, but before I order, I would like to be sure that the FX8 is compatible with a Marshall JVM410H.
In the manual, Fractal Audio indicates that the relays of the FX8 are designed for use ONLY with amplifiers that use “short-to-sleeve”
type switching ...
Does someone uses the FX8 with a JVM410H? Any problem for channels switching?
Thank you.

Relay switching won't work, the 410h uses its own special pedal. But midi will work, I use it currently with a hd500 until I receive my FX8... You can only use program changes...

Thank you for your answers guys ...

To sum up, I just have to buy a long midi cable and to set the FX8 to switch the channels of the amplifier?

Correct. Very easy to set this up, by the way. Took me about two minutes to set the FX8 to switch channels on my amp via MIDI. It can send a program change message with each scene, which is very useful.

Thank you, your message is reassuring.
I'm not a specialist in this kind of recent multi-effects (I still use an old Quadraverb). So I'm going to need time to get familiar with the scenes concepts etc ...
What amp do you use? A 4-channel?
In the manual, page 81, there is a table for MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE NUMBERS. Did you used it?
MIDI programming is not clearly indicated in the manual. So I'll ask you questions as soon as I received my FX8...

I use two amps, a Bogner Shiva and an Egnater Mod50. The Mod50 uses MIDI for channel switching (it's a 4-channel amp). I did not use the MIDI table you mentioned in the manual. The information you need is 1. what MIDI channel does your amp receive on, and 2. what program change numbers are required to select each channel. You can get that info from the amp's manual or from the manufacturer. My Mod50 is set for MIDI channel 1, and the program change numbers were something like 60-63 to select amp channels 1-4 (those numbers are not exact, I don't have the rig with me at the moment.)

Once you have the required information about the amp, you just go to the Program Changes tab in FX8-Edit and select the MIDI channel and Program Change numbers you need for each scene. You can do it on the FX8's panel as well. It's very quick and easy.

Hi,

I sent two message to Marshall for the program change numbers of my JVM410H, but no answer.
And I didn't find them in the manual.
Does anyone know this numbers ??
Thanks.

If you never programmed midi on your JVM, the midi table will be empty.
You can however program your 12 programs yourself ( Clean, Crunch, OD1, OD2, each with their green, orange and red state).
Just choose desired setting on the JVM and push the footswitch/midi program button twice, then select the desired preset on your FX8. Voilà !

Thanks for aswer...
I bought the JVM recently and I have not used the MIDI part. The MIDI table should be empty.
MIDI programming is actually for me a totally unknown world ...!:lol
But from what you say, it seems easy to program on the FX8.
I still have to look at the manual to understand the programming and the differences between "preset" and "scene".
Have you already received your FX8?

Yes and loving it ! The midi programming is realy easy...
I first made a preset for each channel/color, just to have a template to start from for further programming.

Lucky you !!!I'm still on the waiting list ...
I contacted G66, I should get an invite to buy at the end of September...
As soon as I receive mine, I will contact you if I have a problem to program the channel switching for my Marshall.

On the other side, G66 said that the first delivery (I suppose by boat) for Europe is scheduled for September 20.
Can you confirm that you bought your FX8 at G66?

Yes I ordered from G66 in august, but I was in the waitlist since octobre 2014...

Ok, so G66 is waiting for a "new" delivery, and not "the first". I misunderstood.
I'm on the waitlist since january. I'll still have to wait.
Thanks.

I'm new with the FX8
I was using my JVM410C with a G System and the channel switching was flawlessly
But now I can't make the channels change with the FX8.
When I save any MIDI change, all the other presets of the FX8 load the same channel on my JVM, no matter what, just the last saved config will be recalled.
Would you could be a more specific on the procedure you use to program and control the JVM through the FX8
That will be very useful to me.
I'm trying to avoid the use of the MIDI block and I just want to use the program change messages that the FX8 sends with every preset change.
Thanks

This is taken from an older conversation :

ok, first I want to know: is your midi led still flashing after you send the PC command from the FX8 ?
If so :
- check your midi connenction (from out on the FX8 to in on the JVM)
- are they on the same midi channel (default channel 1) ?
You can reset the JVM to listen to channel 1 by doing the following :
Switch the amplifier off (Power switch, not Standby).
Press and hold the FOOTSWITCH / MIDI PROGRAM switch.
Switch the amplifier on (Power switch).
Release the FOOTSWITCH / MIDI PROGRAM switch, the LED will start to flash.
Send ANY MIDI command using your FX8.
The amplifier will detect which channel came in and configure itself to listen to that MIDI channel only.
- check on the midi page of the i/o setup menu : midi channel 1, Prog change On (I'm not sure this is necessary, but that's how I did it...)
- in stompbox mode go to the cfg page and scroll down to Midi PC and select the desired MIDI PC number (also check your midi channel again on that same page...)

Put your JVM in Midi Program mode and then turn the Value knob to change the PC (say from 0 to 1 as an example) you will transmit that last PC nr to the JVM (midi led flashes rapidly for a few seconds)
- Save your preset !
You can do this for every Scene.

Succes !
