Yeah, the routing can become a bit too messy if you use a lot of parallel fx in series.
My personal approach is to always set mix at 50%, compensate with the level knob according to the chart above and use input gain to set the wet level.
This approach also has the advantage that you get perfect spillover/trails when switching between two channels that have identical settings except for input gain.
